Tho is blind in one eye, and cannot speak or hear. He did not know anything before attending New Beginnings. He is mentally slow, but he is trying hard. He lives with his mother and brother in housing for the very poor. He has not seen his father in several years. Before coming to the New Beginnings School Tho says, “I didn’t know the alphabet such as A B C. Now I can write a lot and my writing is more beautiful. I can do Math well. I can remember sign language very much but my sign is not beautiful.” Even though he tries very hard to be a good student, sometimes Tho is easily distracted from his lessons. He admits that he often focuses less on the lectures. Sometime he is absent from school because of his hard situation. Tho’s mother goes to work early in the morning and is unable to take him to school. She hires a neighbor take Tho to school and pays them. Unfortunately, Tho and his mother are unsure of how much longer Tho can continue going to school.
