SPONSOR A TEACHER

Teachers of Deaf children living in poverty are remarkable people. Their work comes with unique challenges that often go unnoticed. They must know sign language to communicate well; Deaf teachers usually have this skill naturally, while hearing teachers may need to learn it from the ground up. Many Deaf children in developing countries arrive at school with no formal language at all—having communicated only through gestures or basic body language. Giving these children their first language is a profound and life-changing task. Teaching them to read is another major hurdle. Since they cannot hear the sounds that form words, they must learn to read through visual strategies, pattern recognition, and patient, specialized instruction. At Deaf Child Hope International, we believe teachers are essential to giving Deaf children in poverty hope and a future. A Deaf teacher sponsorship is $50 a month, and you can explore available teachers below.
