Tai didn't know any words or numbers before becoming a student at New Beginnings. He is happier and more flexible now, learning new skills and hygiene. Tai lives with his grandmother, who supports the family by farming the land. She hopes to raise pigs to improve their income. Tai likes taking photographs and filming. He is very glad to be in school. Tai can hear very well but only speaks a little bit. The doctors said that he has an intellectual disability. Before attending New Beginnings, he went to a traditional school but then quit after grade 2. When Tai first came to New Beginnings, he didn't know how to write or do math. Coming to this school, he is not only learning sign language but also learning to speak. Teachers help him talk more often. Tai's lessons don't always come easy for him, but he is hard working and he has achieved some improvement. Math is still a challenge for him, but his writing has improved a lot. Once Tai attended a birthday party for a friend and he made a card to wish his friend a Happy Birthday. Everyone was surprised because they always thought he would never be able to do that. Tai is a very helpful young boy. He likes sweeping the class, throwing garbage into the bin, and cleaning the table. He is well liked by his fellow classmates. Tai and his family would like to say "thank you" for teaching him sign language, learning to speak, calculating, and having good friends.
