Kieu is happy and healthy but often gets nosebleeds. She is clever and lovely, and she loves to draw. Prior to attending New Beginnings, she had no true formal education. Now Kieu is learning writing, math, and character development. Kieu’s father is a farmer and builder. Often they do not have enough rice. Kieu has trouble memorizing, but she is improving. In 2011, she left public school and joined the Deaf School. Kieu is very interested in the school because she has friends who are in similar situations and they are able to understand, share, play and laugh with her. By learning sign language, her parents can now understand Kieu much better. Things were very hard at first but with encouragement and hard work, she overcame many of the obstacles she faced. Kieu says, “Before I couldn’t do Math well but now I can. Before I didn’t understand what I wrote but now I can understand a lot.” She is also learning to become a good person through character development and basic living skills in natural and social studies. Kieu and her family would like to say thank you so much for helping her to have a good environment in which to learn.
